Sustainability is one of the cornerstones of our operations. In our day-to-day operations, we consider the aspects of the environment, society and economic well-being. In particular, considering environmental values is essential for Kolmeks at group and unit levels. We are constantly striving to develop our practices and make better choices to get a positive impact on the environment and reduce our carbon footprint.
Nordic wind and hydropower
Since 2021, the electricity used by the Kolmeks Turenki plant has been produced entirely from renewable energy sources, i.e. 100% Nordic wind and hydropower. The emission factor for the electricity we use is, therefore, zero.
The use of electricity produced from renewable energy is an important step closer to a smaller carbon footprint, to which we are paying even greater attention.
Environmentally responsible suppliers
Since 2018, our carbon footprint of energy used at the Turenki factory has decreased by 87%. This number includes both electricity and district heating. It is a significant change and achieved through environmentally responsible supplier choices.
Other significant actions to reduce the carbon footprint at Kolmeks include more efficient recycling and more efficient utilization of waste materials.
